Shocking news, everyone: it’s DECEMBER! But at least we’ve got some holiday specials to enjoy – starting with the Guardians of the Galaxy one that came out recently! Let’s watch that and talk about it, huh?
But that may not be enough holiday spirit for us, so let’s also pitch some special presentations of our own! Imagine, if you will: Nathan Fillion finally joins the MCU in an ULTRA cheery story straight out of the 1991 Marvel Holiday Special! Werewolf By Night and Man-Thing fend off burglars in a monster-ized “Home Alone” style adventure! A holiday card from The Thing kicks off a bizarre claymation-animated odyssey straight outta Marvel Two-In-One! Miserly Bruce Wayne is plagued by ghost Robins in a Wayne Manor Christmas Carol! Are you ready for… the Twelve Nights of What If…? And there are plenty more under the podcast tree!
It’s that time of year once again! The Celery Day Stalkslam is upon us! Four comic book characters representing Christmas, four representing Halloween, battle to determine which is the best holiday of all time…I guess? Is that what this is about? We’ve admittedly lost track. Anyway, violence!
It’s that wonderful holiday season once again! And once again… it’s kind of a weird one. So let’s get weird! Listen and read along with us as we react to another ’70s Power Records performance, this time of Tomb of Dracula #19 by Marvel Wolfman & Gene Colan! Dracula and Rachel van Helsing are trapped on the Transylvanian Alps in the middle of a snowstorm! Um, on the way to a Christmas party! Sure, let’s go with that. Will they manage to escape the treacherous mountain and/or kill each other? The only things standing in their way: wooden bullets, a helicopter crash, regular bullets, and Dracula’s greatest enemy… A GOAT!
Sync up the following video with the 3:29 mark of the podcast for the full effect! Or if you’ve got a copy of the comic in your back-issue bins, unseal that bad boy and read along!
It’s that time o’ the season and the boys love to make up their own comic stories…. so …. it’s time for Christmas Comics Pitch! Each of them come up with their own weird and wonderful comic book for the season. From a certain notorious X-Family holiday get together, to a decidedly mutated version of a Christmas classic, to a monstrous adventure for a certain jolly guy and his reindeer, we have your holiday comic fix here. All that and a quiz on a comics legend, and a delightful mishmosh of newsy news! Join us. We’ll bring the nog.
Winter in comic books is kinda… weird, right? Like it rarely happens, and when it does it always seems to be over after a single issue or story-arc. And as semi-northern Canadians, we have a podcast episode to pick with that! But as semi-northern Canadians, we also appreciate it whenever it happens! So join us on a wintery journey through the snow-filled superhero comics that stuck with us (we’ve got TMNT *and* X-Men!), the inadequacies of superhero costumes in winter (tell us, HOW do Spider-Man’s lenses not constantly fog up when he’s wearing a mask?), and we pitch some new comic story ideas to make up for an otherwise lack of winter realism. Plus: Hulk in a snowsuit!! That sounds brrrrr– uh, great!
But… what’s this!? We give wintertime “normal jobs” to three random comic characters: Moon Knight vs. Hockey Parents! Quicksilver turns into a tow truck… Turbo Teen style, even! Fantomah helps (and causes) icy car accidents! And we talk about all the wildest news, from an abruptly-cancelled Luke Cage miniseries, a new comic about Starship Hulk, and Saga’s live-action debut!
For thousands of years, the debate has raged: Christmas? Halloween? Which is the supreme holiday? Today we solve this decisively, once and for all, ion the typical manner of making a bunch of characters, each representing one of the two holidays, fight!
But first! We’ve got more “news” about the Ayer Cut, as well as the Diamond Distribution Hack and a new comic-based cartoon that just came out! Plus, we’re covering all of the Disney+ Day Marvel stuff in the Warmup!
It’s the holiday season, so we’re celebrating once again with a Power Records Christmas! This year, we’re finally getting to the W̶o̶n̶d̶e̶r̶ Superman story! It’s time to light up the Christmas tree on the White House lawn, but some dick (yeah, I’m saying it, this guy’s a dick!) has decided that he doesn’t just want to light up a tree; he wants to light up the whole world! Can the Man of Steel stop him in time? Can Jimmy Olsen trip over a bucket or something, saving the day? Can the UN actually accomplish something? Find out this week!
Happy Holidays fellow Comic geeks! We have a treat for you today on xmas day…… a Wonder Woman Christmas story from a 1977 vinyl…. and we talk over the whole thing! Sounds great doesn’t it? It totally is. Think MST3K but with an even LOWER budget. Listen to this tale of a sinister villain that kidnaps Santa Claus in order to trap Wonder Woman in order to be Queen of the World in order to rule as the master race…. uh… whoa…. the 70’s were a rough, awkward time. Need that break from the xmas familial madness? We got you covered… well for 20 minutes or so.
Christmas day is almost here, so it’s time to celebrate with a LIGHTNING ROUND in your stocking! (You… you heard us!)
Join us on a fast-paced, maaaybe raunchier-than-usual mad journey as we pitch comic holiday specials (including the returns of Jeremy Piven Hawkeye and Scott Bakula Deadman), come up with new toy lines in a Character Storm, compete in a holiday comics quiz, decide which heroes and villains believe in the War on Christmas, and perform a Dramatic Reading of the time the Avengers went up against SANTRON! Oh, and more. So much more!
Well it’s that time of year….. Time for the Zero Issues Boys to put together a little audio cheer in podcast form. This week’s cheerful bliss comes in the form of a Batman story on vinyl, telling the bizarre tale of Batman, Robin and Robin’s replacement, Dr John, as they sing Christmas carols, run in flip flops and and swing on chandeliers in homeless shelters. Join us for this short tale of Gotham’s miserable Christmas, won’t you?
