300: Somebody Says Something Stupid and That’s the Title

WOW!! 300 episodes!! It’s a big moment for these three little nerd boys, so to celebrate talking about comics for 300 maniacal podcast episodes, we do something a little different and ply deep into each other’s psyches with a list of questions….. to discover just how geeky we are. So 5 questions each from the three of us and then we put the call out…. ‘Ask us anything! Give us your queries!’…. and BOY, DID YOU!!! And we answered ALL OF THEM!!!! And if you sent in a question, you were entered to win an art prize pack from the three amigos here! So join us, won’t you, for a (slightly) extra long episode of wackiness and reflection and deep dive comics madness! (and check out our special homage to godfather Todd’s iconic Amazing Spider-Man #300)

298: It was a Fear Demon

This week’s episode was all about Black Widow and Loki, and had huge spoilers for both, but then a fear demon showed up, and now it’s all about retcons! From Puck originally being 6’6″, to Hal Jordan not really being a dick after all, to Norman Osborn and Gwen Stacy getting all Brazzersy, sometimes comic creators make some very, hmm, interesting choices. So we gripe about them!

Also, more news than you can handle; and in the Warmup, we try to figure out where to put all of these comics before they trap us like Principal Skinner in the classic Simpsons episode “Bart the Murderer”.

296: The Summers Family Deadbeat Dad Reunion

Our Podcast Dad didn’t send the cheque on time, so this Father’s Day episode is a week late AND we’re talking about the deadbeat dads of comics! Take that! Superhero books have more than their fair share of bad father figures, but what makes one a deadbeat instead of a garden-variety neglectful or abusive A-hole? Which deadbeat super-dad is the deadbeatiest of all? And how many of these disappointments are from the Summers family? (Believe it or not, some aren’t!)

But that’s not all! We’ve got news: a Warren Ellis announcement finally set off a real response to allegations from SoManyOfUs.com; Miles Morales gets a new costume; and Ben Reilly returns to the role of Spider-Man. And then Merk guides Kyle & Bry through the many surprising covers of the Batman 1966 theme song – some you may not believe!

284: What If Wolverine Was a Toronto Raccoon?

After the marathon Snyder Cut episode of last week, how about something shorter, lighter & more fast paced? And raccoons. We got ya covered. This week the boys are all over the map exploring what else? Comics! And Worf. The Worf Effect to be more precise. The Worf Effect is when a big, bad character is used as a punching bag to make someone else seem bad ass. But then that big, bad character gets overused as a punching bag so…. they seem… well…. like Worf… with the flu. We touch on a ton of characters that get this-Doomsday, Superman, Juggernaut, Martian Manhunter, Silver Surfer, Galactus and of course, Wolverine. Then Bry tells a story of his encounter with Toronto Raccoons. It makes sense. All of this. It does. I swear. All this and Kyle has a ‘read this now’, weird star wars additions to Disney +, an Hourman movie and Ed Brubaker and his troubled relationship with the Winter Soldier. Plus, Andy Richter as the Beyonder! And find out who MURDER MAN is and WHO he MURDERED, MAN!!

267: Butterscotch Wolverine

Kramabadoom!!! This week’s a Lightning Round episode, and you know what that means: serious discussion about what kind of Green Goblin knockoff we’d like to be, what DC comic is best suited to feature Gamera, and wondering aloud if anyone actually enjoys knowing everything there is to know about Star Wars. All that and the debut of Canada’s yum-diddly-scrumpious super hero!

250: Magneto’s Mutant-Making Orgasm Machine

Believe it or not, the year 2000 was 20 years ago! So this week we look back and celebrate the original X-MEN movie! The film that introduced Hugh Jackman (and, to some extent, Wolverine) to the public at large! How does this early Marvel movie hold up since comic movies have evolved so much since? What are the highlights? Who are the actors and characters who never got their due? Make like evolution and leap forward into this episode!!

244: Superman, Your Kid’s a Nerd!

It’s that time of year again! No not to get your fishin’ license and go looking for Aquaman! It’s Father’s Day this weekend! So we look at superhero dads who you may not have known had gone out & made a baby…. or two… or three… or 45 in the case of Wolverine. Is deadbeat dad his new mutation?!? We talk about that and kids from Superman, Batman, Colossus (Are you my papa, tovarisch?) and many more. We debate whether Tony Stark had a vasectomy at 25 or developed an extremis condom. Either is possible. And yes, we actually discuss it. We’re nerds. We also have a warm up bit with a game of 20 questions, and lots of news including Spiderman at the BLM protests, the police bizarrely using the Punisher logo, the new DC distribution deal and the sad passing of a comics legend, Denny O’ Neil.

218: Death by a Thousand Snyder Cuts

Release the Snyder Cut! I guess! There’s somehow still talk of this thing (possibly more talk, even), so this week, we’re coming up with our own Snyder Cuts. How do you fix a movie like Justice League, anyway? And how could you fix other movies in the same way?

Plus, we’re talking about comic book piracy. When indie books are being downloaded by the hundreds of thousands, and the creators are broke, is that cool? On the flipside, comic books are damned expensive, dawg. Like, real ‘spensive. We solve this problem*!

All that, and Kyle manages to contribute to the news for once.

211: Fluff Me

This is the end, beautiful friends…. for these unfortunate characters! This week we pitch endings in the spirit of several Marvel titles that tell the last story of that character. However we don’t know which characters until the last second so we’re making up their endings on the fly!! How does Machine Man go offline? How does Angel fall to earth? How does Spidey sputter? How does Blade bite it? That plus a House of X game, witness (with your ears) the origin of JIMBERJACK, get a rundown of some Marvel NYCC news, Joker movie first weekend numbers, and a bizarre, rambling open that even we don’t understand how we went from Namorita to ‘what is a casserole’? Join us, won’t you? And please bring your favourite casserole.

197: Raising Cable

This week the boys take it on the road! …. or at least talk about comic characters taking it on the road. With Spidey: Far from Home coming out they discuss heroes out & about, traveling the world! And it’s interesting how many times Spider-Man has gone international…. and killed people! Seriously! JJJ was right! He’s a menace!! We also go over Peter’s bizarre multi city trip to Canada on the Bugle’s dime (JJJ was just trying to get rid of that psychopath!) Hear about the Chameleon bribing kids with drugs for their science notes and the tale of the RIGHT RIDERS (Brett Butte & all)! Which character would you take to Mardi Gras? Find out why Kyle would take Hawkman and why he seems to think all international festivals revolve around the throwing of beads. All this plus the DC Vertigo ‘thang’ and why Netflix won’t be dropping Good Omens anytime soon.  Seriously, this is a good one. Join us for a little trip…
