368: A James Gunn Rock-Afire Explosion

It’s beginning to look a lot like CHAOS! Usually we’d have a short bit of holly-jolly fun for you this week, but the DCU rumours and news and rumours and announcements and responses and outright lies for clicks are flying fast, and we are forced to do this holiday season wacky-backwards style and take a look back, and a look forward, at the state of the DCU and predictions for what we’ll see in the future! And also comics, we also do that for comics in general. (But we’re not too happy to be trapped in the Fandome again, so we may get extra raunchy! Consider that a warning, youse.)

Oh, but there’s so much other news! The TMNT and Usagi team up one more time at IDW, Netflix closes an umbrella as their programming gets mysterious and spooky and altogether ooky, The Boys give the world the first good NFT, and we share some “very real” news articles from a comic-news site that will not be named here! Hey, year’s almost over, let’s get wild!

345: I Would Like to Taste the Horsey Sauce

The Thunderbolts are ready to strike the MCU! A director has been hired, and that means it’s time to wildly speculate about who and what the team of villains-turned-heroes will be when they hit the big screen! To the point that we almost pitch a story, including a topical introduction to a certain Fantastic villain? And perhaps even a Merc with a mouth?? But anyway: What version of the comic will it look to adapt? Which MCU villains will make the cut? Will Zemo keep the purple balaclava or will he don the weird silver pointy mask of Citizen V? And just imagine: Werner Herzog as Baron Zemo Sr.!

And what news! The Boys is coming back for a 4th season, and Jensen Ackles opens up about show creator Eric Kripke’s diabolical methods! TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is out literally tomorrow, with some excessive special editions coming in the probably distant future! Joe Quesada is retiring from Marvel after 20+ years in charge! And a a chance glimpse of “Ugly Namor” has us chatting about when superheroes weren’t all Hollywood hot & fit and whether they even should be! Maybe some comic podcast hosts could be superheroes! MAYBE!

Welcome True Auditory Believers!

This week is a special episode of ZI because we have guests! Smart guests! Drs. Judith Leggatt & Monica Flegel of Lakehead University (English Department) join us to discuss…well… a ton of comics stuff! From the SDCC announcements (including a few ‘lesser known’ announcments [did you know IDW is doing a Degrassi series?]), to the adaptation of The Boys appearing on Prime, all of us desiring to see Thunderbolts on the big screen, a quick JL vs BvS (if there is such a thing).

We also delve more specifically into politics and diversity in comics, race and gender-bending, and the panic reaction of ‘some’ to these storylines & characters. The good doctors are writing a book about these exact topics so…..let’s see if the smarts rub off onto the boys, shall we?
