Holiday Half Pints 1: Bats V Supes V Xmas

Holiday Half Pints! We’re doing the 12 days of Xmas, Zero Issues style in 10 min episodes!  For the first one we do a dramatic reading of an unbelievable Superman & Batman Christmas comic. It’s got everything you need. A little all American boy who drinks vodka, Steven Seagal and a whole lot o’ Bill Finger!

Episode 92: Big Dumb Guys Dressed Like Animals

This week we’re talkin’ all about meatheads and muscleheads! The villains whose main power is being super strong and smashing stuff! We run the gamut from the big dumb bruisers to the masterminds who match brawn with brains, and talk about what makes these characters so effective and appealing. And which meathead is the best meathead of all? (It’s the Rhino, clearly it’s the Rhino, c’mon.)

Also: we cover the launch of Vault Comics, play a round of MFK with Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man (but not the ones you may expect), and put a spotlight on a graphic novel where Aleister Crowley goes up against Hitler… uh, just in time for Christmas…?

ALSO also: an announcement about this year’s upcoming Zero Issues holiday special!

Episode 91: Time Traveling Pants

Apocalypse, meow! This week, we cover some of our favourite apocalypse-based comics, and even a few that we haven’t read. Bry tries to explain Dragon Ball’s Trunks to Merk in under a minute, Kyle says “I’m a dog” several times, and we all try to figure out just why we as a culture love the idea of the apocalypse so much.

Also: Bry challenges us to a quiz of apocalyptic proportions, and Merk shows us that the real monster is man in a Creature Commandos dramatic reading.

Episode 90: The Book of Sammy in Boston

This week we go into controversial territory. No, not politics. Actually we do do that as well, but I mean religion! How does that work in comics? Is there a God? There’s lots of devilish folks in comics but we explore that. And we go to Boston… kind of. Kyle takes us back on a game of Chooses the Doozes (what will we do with that Zellers gift card?) while Merk heads up a dramatic reading of an old Avengers tale where Hellcat is introduced, and Captain America is a dick. Can you believe this guy?

Episode 89: Like a Fruitopia Commercial, but All Ditkos

In honour of Steve Ditko’s recent 89th birthday, and the release of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in theatres, it’s time to talk all things Ditko: the work, characters, legacy, philosophy, and the recent projects of the famously reclusive comics legend! We have an objectively great time! Also: we talk about the Doctor Strange movies — that’s right, movies! — and give Wong some long-overdue respect.

Episode 87: Googam Fast Cat Kaiju

This week we’re all about monsters! BIG MONSTERS!! And by that we mean Jimmy Olsen and Googam.

Bry also gives his run down of the new Flash season and how everyone hates Wally West… every time. And then there’s Flash Cat. There’s also a mini big monster quiz, and Kyle talks about North American Kaiju flics…. and of course that leads to cowboys eating lawyers on the toilet and a WAY over the line bit about 18″ TMNT figures.

We apologize in advance.

Episode 86: Punching With Magic (but not Magick)

Dr. Strange is hitting the big screen at long last, and that inspired us to have a discussion about magic and mysticism in comics, and how well it works (or doesn’t work) in superhero universes! Also: we touch on new superhero-themed fashion from Her Universe, get excited about attending ThunderCon this weekend, and Merk tells us all about his upcoming graphic novel “Season of the Dead Hours”!
